Kieran McCarthy is a Partner and Head of the Complex & International Disputes team at Gateley Legal. A dual-qualified (England & Wales/ New York) disputes specialist in international arbitration and complex cross-border litigation, he has a particular focus on the intersection of private and public international law and highly regulated industries, such as mining, energy, technology and financial services. He also advises companies and sovereigns on ESG-related matters, international trade law, sanctions and other compliance issues. He has acted as Counsel in over 100 international arbitrations (including at international law firms in London, Geneva and Paris), including several ISDS cases advising investors, sovereigns, and state-owned entities on a range of high-value, strategically important and politically sensitive disputes. He currently represents several African states in multi-billion dollar mining-related proceedings. A frequent author on disputes and public policy issues, he is a Lecturer in International Economic Law at King’s College London and a previous Scholarships Co-Director for Young ICCA. He is recognised as an international arbitration specialist by both Legal 500 and GAR.
