Maria Chiara Malaguti
Co-Director of the Roma Tre – UNIDROIT Centre for Transnational Commercial Law and International Arbitration, President Emeritus of UNIDROIT and Professor of International Law at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore
Maria Chiara Malaguti was appointed President of UNIDROIT in August 2020 for a mandate of five years, and further President Emeritus. She was the first woman being appointed to this position. She is Full Professor of International law at Università Cattolica Sacro Cuore and legal advisor to the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, also assisting the State legal team (Avvocatura dello Stato) in international investment arbitral disputes. She represents Italy in all current negotiations for ISDS reform, and contributed to the drafting of the latest version of Italy’s Model BIT. She is a member of the Panel of Arbitrators of ICSID, a member of the Committee on Arbitration and ADR of ICC Italy, and an Italian delegate of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR. She is also Of Counsel at PedersoliGattai in Rome. She holds degrees in Law and in Economics from the University “Alma Mater” of Bologna, an LL.M. from Harvard Law School and a Ph.D. from the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy.
