Participating in the 13th edition of the Certificate in International Commercial and Investment Arbitration was a privilege and a very enriching experience. As a law student who is moving their first steps in international arbitration, i particularly appreciated all the perspectives shared on day-to-day practice and the opportunity to engage with the wider landscape of international arbitration. I was very impressed with the outstanding faculty of this program, with lecturers coming from very diverse background and some of the most insightful exchanges happening informally over lunch. The program is structured to allow knowledge to be built naturally and progressively, starting from the fundamental principles and spanning over to some of the most complex issues of international arbitration. Nonetheless, the faculty still manage to make everything accessible.
I also liked meeting a plethora of colleagues from all corners of the world. It was a truly fantastic course, which culminated with the honour of attending Prof. Kaufmann Kohler’s annual lecture on international arbitration at UNIDROIT. For anyone interested in internation arbitration, i could not recommend the certificate more.
Participating in the 13th edition of the Certificate in International Commercial and Investment Arbitration was a truly enriching experience, both academically and professionally. Coming from a shipping law and arbitration background, I particularly appreciated the opportunity to broaden my perspective beyond my day-to-day practice and engage with the wider landscape of international commercial and investment arbitration. What makes the Certificate particularly valuable is the combination of rigorous academic content, practical insights and an exceptional leading arbitration practitioners and academics. The programme is thoughtfully structured, allowing participants to move from fundamental principles to more complex and contemporary issues while encouraging discussion and critical thinking. I was also impressed by the international character of the programme. Meeting participants from different jurisdictions and professional backgrounds created an excellent environment for exchanging perspectives and building lasting professional connections. The experience extended well beyond the classroom, with the academic programme complemented by opportunities for informal discussion and networking. I am very grateful to have been part of this edition and would wholeheartedly recommend the Certificate to anyone seeking to deepen their understanding of international arbitration. It is an experience that combines knowledge, inspiration and an international network that will stay with you long after the programme ends.
I was delighted to attend the 13th edition of the Certificate in International Commercial and Investment Arbitration as a Young ICCA – MCL Arbitration Scholar, and very grateful to Young ICCA and MCL Arbitration for making the opportunity possible. The Certificate brought together an exceptional group of academics and arbitration practitioners, and the sessions were consistently practical, engaging and thought-provoking. I particularly valued the discussions that challenged some of my assumptions about familiar concepts in international arbitration, as well as those that offered useful clarity on complex issues I have encountered in my ongoing arbitrations. This made the Certificate not only intellectually rewarding, but also immediately relevant to my day-to-day practice. Equally valuable was the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with practitioners and arbitration enthusiasts from different jurisdictions and at different stages of their careers. And, of course, having all of this take place in Rome made the experience that much more memorable. I left the Certificate with new perspectives, renewed enthusiasm for the practice of arbitration, and a deeper appreciation for the many ways in which there is always more to learn.
I had the privilege of attending the 13th edition of the Certificate in International Commercial and Investment Arbitration thanks to the scholarship awarded by ArbIt and Young ICCA. It is an exceptionally comprehensive course, thoughtfully designed to take participants on a journey from the fundamentals of international arbitration to some of its most specific and complex issues. Its structure allows knowledge to build naturally and progressively, making even the most advanced topics accessible and engaging. If I had to highlight what makes the Certificate particularly special, I would point to its truly outstanding faculty, which culminated in an unforgettable Annual Lecture. Having the opportunity to hear such a distinguished arbitrator as Gabrielle Kaufmann-Kohler at the UNIDROIT premises, in such a warm and engaging conversation and on such a timely topic, was a truly fitting conclusion. I leave the Certificate not only with a great deal of new knowledge, but also with colleagues from different parts of the world whose insights enriched my learning experience. For anyone interested in international arbitration who has the opportunity to attend, I could not recommend the Certificate more highly. It is an experience that goes well beyond the classroom and one that I will certainly carry with me throughout my professional career.
What sets this course apart is the intellectual generosity behind it, Professor Giacomo Rojas Elgueta and his team makes a point of knowing each participant’s background, and some of the most insightful exchanges happen informally over lunch. I am particularly grateful for the Chaffetz Scholarship, which allowed me to be part of an experience that brought theory, practice and genuine intellectual exchange together. The course offers a rare opportunity to step away from the urgency of practice and reconsider the principles that shape how we approach arbitration. I left not only with a deeper understanding of the field, but with better questions about the kind of practitioner I want to become.
